There is a famous Curonian Spit in the most western part of Russian Federation. It is the longest sand bay bar in the world, which separates fresh waters of Curonian Golf from salt waters of Baltic sea. Curonian Spit has infinite sand dunes, fields of lichens, pine woods and light birch groves.
In the very center of Curonian Spit, on the territory of “Golden Dunes” forestry, a pine forest is in need of restoration. Mountain pines that grow here have lost their ability to maintain the environment and pose danger of fire.
It is estimated to plant 4950 new trees of Scots Pine to protect the territory from forest fires and to harden the moving sand dunes.
