About area

The Volga Delta is the intersection of the flyways of numerous waterfowl and near-water birds. Astrakhan Nature Reserve is located within the global transcontinental migratory route of birds, which indicates the undoubted outstanding importance of the territory for the conservation of biodiversity. In order to preserve and restore the only indigenous type of woody vegetation, it is necessary to produce forests of white willow. In addition, unlike other stands, willow forests in the reserve are the habitat of a number of rare and endangered bird species listed in the Red Data Books of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Russian Federation: Dalmatian Pelican, White-eyed Duck, Marble Teal, Saker Falcon, etc. On this Obzhorovsky site of the Astrakhan reserve, on an area of 5 hectares, on the left bank of the Ovchinnikov channel, 3125 white willow forest cultures will be planted. Planting dates are due to soil moisture, therefore planting is carried out at the end of April - beginning of May 2017, before the start of floods in the Volga delta. Placing crops 4 mx 4 m in 4 rows. The planting of crops is designed only along the edge of the riverbanks along the channels.

Hello dear friends! Landing monitoring showed stable survival of crops. In this area - 85%. This is an excellent indicator, the site does not require additions. Willows are a special culture. Growing in the reserve, it not only does not require additional care, but excessive human intervention can adversely affect young trees. Reed thickets, shade and moisture are ideal conditions for white willow. You can see ... how our trees grow with you in our photographs. Thank you for your attention and support!

Hello friends! We had an autumn inventory. The survival rate on the site is 85%, this is a good indicator. Supplement of forest crops is not required, since such survival rate does not have a negative effect on the closeness of tree crowns. Most of the young trees have already escaped from the captivity of the reed beds and so happy to observe them still young, not closed crowns. After a minimum of 5 years, a willow grove ... rises above the expanses of ferocious reed and will take under its crowns all for whom the white willow is home.

Dear friends, it is so nice to share great news with you! Willow forest caught on and shows excellent growth dynamics. Recall that thanks to you and the environmental action of the Post Bank, we managed to plant 12,494 white willow stakes on the territory of the Astrakhan Nature Reserve in 2 years and significantly restore the territories damaged by fire. Now, when many reserves are carrying out agrotechnical care ... for plantings, we are happy to see how favorable weather conditions and long floods naturally support the young willow tree, allowing it to grow without additional human interventions. Our photo report should make you happy, you see how white willow stakes turn into beautiful young trees, which in 4-5 years will become a shady forest and a cozy home for many animals and plants of the Volga delta.

In April 2017, Obzhorovsky and Damchik sites of the Astrakhan State Reserve were carried out to preserve white willow under the motto "Plant a tree. Plant a forest". White willow is one of the main types of vegetation affecting the ecosystem of the Volga delta. Willow thickets become home to many birds and animals, and also keep the banks of the river from being blurred by flooding. Thanks to customers and ... employees of the "Mail Bank", 6,250 white willow stakes were planted on an area of 10 hectares. A year after planting, the survival rate of silvicultural crops was as follows: at the Damchik plot - 95%, at Obzhorovsky 75%. This is a really good result that does not require additional intervention. It is expected that after 5 years this lane will be covered with a willow forest with a dense, closed crown.

How quickly time flies ... It would seem that quite recently we planted ordinary white willow stakes and how joyfully it is to observe, now that the crown of young shoots is already forming on them! More than ever before, the second flood in the Volga delta this year is a flood that creates favorable conditions for the development of young willow saplings. I am sure that thanks to our joint efforts, we will succeed in ... achieving the goal: to preserve white willow - the only indigenous type of woody vegetation in the Volga delta, which suffers from plant fires every year, and also to preserve habitat in unique willow forests for animals and other plants.
