The Smolenskoye Poozerie National Park is holding an ecological campaign to plant green spaces, timed to coincide with the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Planting of forest crops will be carried out near the village of Pokrovskoye, next to the "Green" height, where fierce battles were fought between the soldiers of the Red Army and the Nazi invaders in March 1943. The battles were heavy and bloody, the front line of the front passed through the villages of Pokrovskoye, Praniki. According to the stories of the old residents of the village of Pokrovskoye, the fiercest battle took place at the Green Heights - every meter of the ground was strewn with the bodies of dead soldiers. In memory of the fallen defenders of the Smolensk land, a Poklonny cross was erected at the Green Height, and in the year of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, a forest will be planted in this area on an area of 12.3 hectares.

Парк занимает около 3 % территории Смоленской области, включая в себя 146 237 га земель Демидовского и Духовщинского районов. В 2002 году национальному парку присвоен статус биосферного резервата под эгидой ЮНЕСКО.
