The very famous and visited National Park is located between St. Petersburg and Moscow. In 2004 it was awarded the high status of an international biosphere reserve within the framework of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere program. The main natural attraction, located on the opposite side of the site chosen for forest planting, is Lake Valdai - the deepest (59 m) and cleanest in the Novgorod region. On one of the islands of the Valdai Lake is located the active Valdai Iversky Monastery - the spiritual center of the Valdai land. Its domes are clearly visible from the opposite side of the reforestation site. The forest site selected for plantation suffered from strong hurricane winds, as a result of which this area was damaged by a windblow in October 2019. Carrying out reforestation work is necessary to exclude successional processes that can lead to a change in the species composition in old-growth forests. This is not permissible, since the experimental site of the VF GGI "Taezhniy Log" is located on this site, where long-term observations of the water balance parameters are carried out.
