You may call Togliatti a city in the woods surrounded on the three sides by the Stavropol Pine Forest sanctuary. This area was a nature paradise and habitat to roe deer, moose, hares, foxes, weasels, hedgehogs, partridges, black grouse and more than twenty-five species of birds before a wildfire caused by a dry summer burnt down 2000 square meters of forest here in 2010. Local residents used to pick mushrooms and berries or relaxed in the woods on several walking paths and a special ski track. Ten entrance areas with wooden signs decorated by sculptors invited to relax in this wonderful place. After the terrible fire, hundreds of city residents began to restore their favorite forest. We are going to plant common pines here next spring to accelerate the day when the Stavropol pine forest will again become what it used to be.
